Rabbi Yehuda Bar Iloi was one of the most prominent Tannaim of the 2nd century CE and the most frequently quoted sage in the Mishnah. He was a student of Rabbi Akiva and Rabbi Tarfon. He was known for his extreme poverty — he and his students shared one cloak between them — yet he always appeared joyful. He is buried near Tzfat.
