Rabbeinu Bachya ibn Paquda was an 11th century Jewish philosopher and moralist, author of Chovot HaLevavot (Duties of the Heart), one of the most important works of Jewish ethics and philosophy ever written. His work focuses on the inner life of the Jew — the duties of the heart rather than external actions alone. It remains a foundational text of mussar study to this day.
