Rabbi David ben Zimra (1479-1573), known as the Radbaz, was one of the wealthiest and most influential rabbinic figures of his era. He served as Chief Rabbi of Egypt for 40 years, freeing thousands of Jewish slaves with his own wealth. He later moved to Tzfat where he studied under the Ari. He authored over 3,000 responsa covering virtually every area of Jewish law. He lived to approximately 110 years old.
