Rabbi Chaim Vital (1542-1620) was the Ari’s foremost disciple and the primary recorder of Lurianic Kabbalah. His compilation Etz Chaim preserves virtually all of what is known of the Ari’s teachings. Born in Tzfat and studied under the Alsheich before becoming the Ari’s student. His primary burial site is in Damascus, Syria, but a monument and place of pilgrimage exists in the Tzfat cemetery.
