The Alsheikh Synagogue is named after Rabbi Moshe Alsheikh, one of the great Torah commentators and preachers of 16th century Tzfat. Rabbi Alsheikh was a student of Rabbi Yosef Karo and a contemporary of the Ari. He is best known for his Torah commentary Torat Moshe, which is studied to this day. The synagogue, with its ancient stones and intimate atmosphere, is a testament to the golden age of Tzfat when it was the world center of Jewish learning and mysticism.
