The Avrutch Synagogue, also known as the Bat Ayin Synagogue, is associated with Rabbi Avraham Dov of Avritch, author of the Bat Ayin, who served as the rabbi of Tzfat in the early 19th century. Rabbi Avraham Dov was a Chassidic master of the Chernoby dynasty who made aliyah to the Holy Land and became one of the most beloved rebbes in Tzfat’s history. He is buried in the old cemetery and his kever is visited by thousands each year. The synagogue preserves his memory and Chassidic legacy.
