Chana and her seven sons are among the greatest martyrs in Jewish history. During the persecution of Antiochus Epiphanes (2nd century BCE), Chana watched as each of her seven sons was killed rather than bow to an idol. She encouraged each one to remain faithful, and after the last son was killed, she too gave her life. Their story, recorded in the books of Maccabees and Talmudic sources, is one of the most powerful accounts of Kiddush Hashem in Jewish history. Their kever near Tzfat is a deeply moving site of pilgrimage.
