Rabbi Tarfon was a Tanna of the 1st-2nd century CE, known for his love of the mitzvah of honoring one's mother. The Talmud records that he would crouch down for his elderly mother to step on his back to climb into bed. He is also known for his teaching: 'You are not obligated to complete the work, but neither are you free to desist from it.' His kever is near Tzfat.
