Nachum Ish Gamzu was a Talmudic sage (Tanna) known for his extraordinary faith and acceptance of suffering. His name Gamzu refers to his constant response to every situation: ‘Gam zu l’tovah’ — ‘This too is for the good.’ He was the teacher of Rabbi Akiva and transmitted to him this foundational teaching of faith. Despite suffering great physical afflictions, he maintained complete joy and trust in God.
